How it works

From initial enquiry to finished roofline

A roofline project should feel straightforward from your side. Here is exactly how we run one: what happens at each stage, and what to expect from us along the way.

The four stages

Our installation process, step by step

Every project follows the same clear path, from a one-off repair to a full replacement. Each stage is built to keep you informed and in charge of the decisions.

Discuss your requirements

It starts with a conversation. You tell us about your property, what you've noticed and what you'd like to achieve: tired fascias, overflowing gutters, or a complete refresh of the roofline. We talk through the options in plain terms, explain anything technical and answer your questions, so you can decide how to proceed. There's no obligation at this stage.

Assessment & quotation

Next we assess the roofline properly. We check the condition of the existing boards and rainwater goods, measure the runs involved, and work out what access the job needs. From that we put together a clear written quotation that sets out what is included, so you can see exactly what you're agreeing to before anything is booked.

Material & finish selection

With the scope agreed, you choose your materials. We help you weigh profiles, systems and colours (classic white, anthracite grey, black or a woodgrain effect) against the look of your property and how much upkeep you want. Once your choices are set and availability is checked, we agree an installation date that suits you.

Professional installation & final checks

On the day, our team strips off the old roofline, then fits the new boards, trims and rainwater goods to the measured runs of your roof, working the joints and corners for a neat finish. When it's done we walk the completed roofline with you, check you're happy, and clear the site before we leave.

What happens during the survey?

The survey is where a rough idea becomes a firm plan. We look along the full run of the roofline to gauge the condition of the fascias, soffits, bargeboards and rainwater goods, and to catch what isn't obvious from the ground: soft timber, a failed joint, water tracking where it shouldn't.

We also take the measurements the quotation depends on, and note anything that affects the work: corners, bay windows, porches, a change in roof height. If you have particular concerns, this is the moment to raise them. It's also when we can tell you honestly whether a repair will do the job or whether full replacement is the more sensible route.

Access & safety

Will the job need scaffolding?

Roofline work happens at height, so safe, stable access is priced into every quotation rather than bolted on as an afterthought.

How we reach the roofline depends on your property. Single-storey work (a bungalow, say, or a ground-floor extension) can often be done safely from access towers or ladders. Two-storey properties, complex roofs and anything awkward to reach usually call for scaffolding, which gives a steady platform to work from and tends to produce a tidier, better-finished result.

We work out what each elevation needs during the survey and set it out in your quotation, so there's no surprise on the day. Where scaffolding is required, we build the set-up and take-down into the schedule so the job runs smoothly from start to finish.

During the work

What to expect while we are on site

Nearly all of it happens outside at roof level. Here is how a typical installation unfolds, and what we do to keep things tidy and low-stress for you.

Protecting the area

Before anything comes down, we cover what sits below and around the work (planting, paths, drives and garden features) so nothing is caught by falling material.

Removing the old roofline

We take down the existing boards, trims and rainwater goods carefully, and check the timber and roof edge behind them while it's all exposed.

Fitting the new system

New fascias, soffits, guttering and downpipes are cut to the measured runs, with the joints, falls and corners worked for a clean, lasting finish.

Keeping you informed

If something unexpected turns up once the old roofline is off, we explain it and agree the way forward with you. We don't press on regardless.

A tidy site each day

We keep the working area in order as we go, so your property stays usable and safe throughout the job, not just once we've finished.

Minimal disruption

Because the work is almost all external, day-to-day life inside your home carries on much as normal while we're there.

Finishing the job properly

A roofline project isn't finished when the last board goes up. It's finished when the site is clean and you're happy with the result. Before we leave, we walk the completed roofline with you, point out what's been done and make sure it matches what was agreed.

Then we clear away the old materials, offcuts and debris, take the waste off for proper disposal, and leave your property tidy. If you'd like a steer on keeping the new roofline looking its best, we're glad to run through the simple upkeep involved, and our materials and finishes page covers how different finishes behave over time.

Good to know

Common questions about the process

Most domestic roofline projects take between one and three days on site, depending on the size of the property, the number of elevations and whether scaffolding is needed. We confirm a realistic timescale in your written quotation before any work is booked in.

Most of the work happens outside at roof level, so you do not need to be in all day. We usually ask that someone is available at the start to confirm the details and at the end for the handover walk-round, and that we can reach an outside tap and power if required.

We remove the old boards, trims and rainwater fittings as part of the job, keep the site tidy as we work, and clear away offcuts and debris before we leave. Your property is left clean, with the old materials taken away for appropriate disposal.
